Principal’s Post - Homecoming Scotland

Momentous year for Scotland

The year 2014 has finally arrived and this is going to be a momentous year for Scotland.  There are several things happening nationwide which are important for both Scots at home and those further afield.  This year has been designated a ‘Year of Homecoming’ with events and activities throughout Scotland enabling everyone to experience what a great place Scotland is to live, study and visit.  Ceud mìle fàilte.

Glasgow will host the 20th Commonwealth Games in the summer. This multi-sport event, like the Olympics held every four years, will see 70 teams from the Commonwealth of Nations compete over a range of sports. Hopefully Scotland as the host nation will bring home some medals.

September sees the international Ryder Cup golf tournament being played here in Scotland at the spectacular Gleneagles course in Perthshire. So golf clubs at the ready for all you golf lovers.

Last but not least, the Scottish independence referendum will be held this year too. The referendum question is “Should Scotland be an independent country?” There are only 2 possible answers ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ – which answer will get the most votes on 18th September 2014?

We will bring you reports of these and other notable happenings as they occur.
