Where did the summer go?
Where did the summer go? Sitting here with the autumn sun shining through the window and festival goers trundling along Princes Street with their suitcases on their way home, a real autumnal feel has crept up on Edinburgh.
The 67th Edinburgh International Festival officially ended last Sunday with the spectacular firework display from the castle accompanying the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s concert from the gardens below. This year music will include Wagner’s evocative ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ as well as Tchaikovsky’s thunderous ‘1812 Overture’. Sights and sounds not to be missed.
As the cannon fire, ringing chimes, and brass fanfare finale of Tchaikovsky’s music comes to an end, the people of Scotland will be ready for the final stages of the Scottish independence battle. With the referendum date of 18th September fast approaching, the final countdown has begun. Will it be ‘Yes’ or ‘No’?
News from the school
The school has been full all summer with interesting, friendly and hard-working students busily improving their skills and effectively communicating with each other.
Besides our usual general English courses, ECS Scotland held a successful CAE preparation course and a TOLES Legal English course. After both these courses, the students took examinations. So fingers crossed for good results for all.
Words in the News
This week’s words must be… “I decided to sell my Hoover ... well it was just collecting dust.” The winning joke at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Ha! Ha! Don’t you agree?
Keep on studying English and let us have your snippets of news too.
