Small actions, lasting impact
Looking beyond the classroom
Many of our students come to Scotland because they want to experience more than a classroom.
They walk through city parks, explore the Highlands, visit islands, discover wildlife and spend time in landscapes that can feel very different from home.
Supporting projects that help care for these places feels like a natural extension of that experience.
Recently, we made our latest Climate Care Charge donation on behalf of students who studied with us between January and April 2026.
Supporting Scotland’s native woodlands
The donation supported the Tree Seed Collection Project run by Trees for Life.
When people think about woodland restoration, they often imagine planting trees. Before that can happen, however, someone first needs to collect the seeds.
The project gathers seed from native Scottish trees growing in locations where commercial collection would not normally take place. This helps protect genetic diversity and supports the long-term restoration of Scotland’s native woodlands.
Thanks to contributions from ECS Scotland students, we donated £800 to the project. Through matched funding, the project ultimately received £1,800, increasing the impact of the donation even further.
What is the Climate Care Charge?
Every student studying at ECS Scotland contributes a small Climate Care Charge as part of their course fees.
The fund allows us to support environmental projects connected to Scotland and encourages us to think carefully about the impact of travel and tourism.
As a small independent English language school, we know that environmental challenges are much bigger than any one organisation. What we can do is make thoughtful choices and support projects that help care for the places our students come to experience.
Why tree seeds matter
Healthy woodlands begin long before a tree is planted.
Collecting seed from native Scottish woodlands helps ensure future forests are grown from trees that are already adapted to local conditions. These woodlands contain generations of natural resilience that cannot easily be replaced.
By supporting seed collection, projects such as this help preserve biodiversity and strengthen future woodland restoration efforts across Scotland.
Thank you
We would like to thank all the students who have studied with us.
Your contribution helped support the collection of native Scottish tree seeds that may one day grow into future woodland restoration projects across the country.
Many students choose Scotland because of its landscapes, wildlife and sense of place. Whether it is a walk through Edinburgh’s parks, a weekend in the Highlands or time spent exploring the coast, these experiences often become part of the learning journey too.
Supporting projects that help care for these places feels like a natural extension of what we do.
We look forward to sharing further Climate Care Charge updates throughout the year and showing students how their contributions are helping support projects connected to Scotland’s environment and landscapes.
