🗓️ Weekly Update from ECS Scotland
Winter sun, gallery visits and the return of small group learning.
The first full week back brought crisp skies, warm coffee breaks and a gentle rhythm of winter learning.
🫖 Coffee break treats and winter light
The week began with a table full of leftover Christmas chocolates (in the best way!) and blue skies over Charlotte Square. There’s something cheerful about sharing a warm drink and sweet treat together, especially in January.
Sunrises have been particularly beautiful this week — soft pinks and oranges stretching across Edinburgh’s rooftops before class begins.
🎨 Scottish art and a gallery outing
Midweek brought a visit to the National Galleries of Scotland to enjoy some quiet inspiration. Highlights included the Scottish Collection, sketches by David Wilkie, J. M. W. Turner’s winter watercolours and the iconic Monarch of the Glen. The gallery’s calm spaces and soft light made it a perfect winter outing.
📚 Courses and conversation
Our General English course ran throughout the week, with students easing back into small group learning. The mix of topics in 1:1 lessons included IELTS preparation and OET coaching — a good reminder of how varied and focused each learner’s journey can be.
✈️ ECS Scotland abroad
While we’ve been welcoming learners to Young Street, Laura has been in Málaga representing ECS Scotland at the Study Travel Alphe conference — sharing what makes our small, friendly school special and meeting new partners for 2026 and beyond.
