Can French professionals use CPF to study English abroad?

Yes — if the course includes recognised learning outcomes, you can use your CPF (Compte Personnel de Formation) credits to fund certified English training, even outside France.

Many professionals in France use their CPF to improve English for work — whether for meetings, international teamwork or exam preparation.

At ECS Scotland, we regularly support CPF-funded learners. Our school can provide the official documents you need to make your CPF request a success.

Projet de transition professionnelle

✅ We can help you:

  • Prepare for recognised exams like TOEIC, Linguaskill or LanguageCert (if required for CPF approval)
  • Build the practical English skills you need for your job
  • Receive the official documentation needed for CPF reimbursement, including course confirmation, learning outcomes and attendance records

📎 ECS Scotland does not register courses directly on moncompteformation.gouv.fr, but we can support you with certified documentation for CPF-linked training.

What is Transition Pro and can it fund English courses abroad?

Transition Pro (Projet de Transition Professionnelle) replaced the former CIF scheme and helps employees in France take time off work for long-term training — including courses that support a career change or new professional direction.

While most Transition Pro funding is used for domestic training, some overseas language courses may be accepted, especially when part of a certified, job-related career plan.

Who is eligible?

To apply for Transition Pro funding, you must:

  • Be employed on a CDI or CDD contract
  • Have at least 2 years of work experience
  • Show how the course supports your career progression or transition

What’s involved?

You’ll need to:

  • Prepare a detailed dossier including learning objectives, certification goals and career impact
  • Get agreement from your employer for study leave
  • Submit your application to your regional Transition Pro association

📎 ECS Scotland can support you by providing a formal course outline, confirmation letter and training objectives for your application.

Do employers in France support English training abroad?

Yes — many French employers support staff who want to improve their English for professional reasons. In addition to CPF or Transition Pro, there are other ways your company might help fund your English course abroad.

Options include:

Plan de développement des compétences

(your organisation’s internal training plan)

Co-financing of CPF-approved courses

(your employer can top up your CPF credit)

Authorised training leave

(congé de formation or special leave for certified language study)

At ECS Scotland, we regularly provide:

  • Official confirmation letters
  • Course outlines with learning objectives
  • Attendance and progress certificates

…to help you request employer support or HR approval.

📎 Just let us know what documents your organisation needs — we’re happy to help.
