コース

コースはいつから受講できますか？

ほとんどのコースは月曜日から受講可能です。コースによっては、ヨガと英語ウェルビーイングなど、開始日が決まっているものもあります。

個人レッスンとプライベート少人数グループは、開始日が自由に選べます。

コンビネーションコースは、ほとんどの月曜日から受講可能ですが、かなり先の週まで予約が埋まっている場合がありますので、旅行の手配をする前にご希望の日程の空き状況をご確認ください。

クリスマスと年末年始の3週間は休校となります。具体的な休校日についてはお問い合わせください。

Can I study English in Edinburgh for one week?

Yes. You can study at ECS Scotland for as little as one week.

Many students choose one-, two- or three week courses, while others stay for 4 weeks or 3 months.

If you are not sure how long to study, we will be happy to advise.

各コースは何週間ですか？

How many hours per week can I study?

Courses are available for 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 hours per week, depending on the programme you choose.

Most students study for 20 to 30 hours per week.

If you are not sure which option is best for you, we will be happy to recommend a course based on your goals and available time.

Can I add one-to-one lessons to my course?

Yes. Many students choose to combine group lessons with Individual Tuition.

General English courses can be combined with 5 or 10 hours of Individual Tuition each week.

Communication at Work includes 20 hours of group lessons and can be combined with 5 or 10 hours of Individual Tuition for a total of 25 or 30 hours per week.

Experience Edinburgh includes 25 hours per week and can be combined with an additional 5 hours of Individual Tuition.

We will be happy to help you choose the combination that best suits your learning goals.

エディンバラ一般英語ースは、仕事で英語を使う必要がなく、より一般的な英語に焦点を当てたい方に最適です。このコースでは、午前9時から午前11時までのスピーキング＆リスニンググループと、エディンバラでの課外学習が含まれます。午後は、教師がエディンバラ市内の様々な場所にお連れし、昼食と復習を一緒に行います。

「コンビネーションコース」では、数時間の一般的なスピーキング＆リスニンググループで他の学生とコミュニケーションスキルを向上させ、その後1対1の授業で特定のニーズに焦点を当てた授業を受けることができます。例えば、ビジネス、金融、法律、医療、航空、観光、環境、一般的なコミュニケーションなど、様々な分野に特化しています。

各グループには何人の生徒がいますか？

ECSスコットランドでは、1グループ最大5名までとさせていただいております。

授業は何時に始まり、何時に終わりますか？

正確な開始時刻は確認通知書にてお知らせします。ただし、授業は通常午前9時に始まり、終了時間は選択した時間数によって異なります。正確な時間割は入学後にお知らせします。

入学後にコースを変更することはできますか？

コースを変更したい場合は、校長またはシニアティーチャーにご相談ください。時期や条件にもよりますが、通常は代替案を見つけることができます。

ECSスコットランド校にはいくつのレベルがありますか？

職場でのコミュニケー ション英語とエディンバラ体験コースは、B1～C1レベルの学生を対象としたマルチレベルのスピーキングとリスニングのコースです。

コンビネーションコースは、マルチレベル（B1～C1）の一般英語のスピーキングとリスニングのクラスと、レベル別の1対1のクラスが何時間か含まれています。

初級（A1）、初級（A2）、上級（C2）レベルの方には、後別指導（1対1）コースがあります。

自分のレベルを知るにはどうすればよいですか？

過去に英語を勉強したことがあれば、ご自身のレベルをある程度把握しているはずです。申込書では、おおよその自己採点をお願いしています。数年前であっても、最後に勉強した英語コースや受験した試験のレベルを教えてください。

ご到着前にニーズ分析フォームをお送りし、当校の教師とスカイプまたはZoomで通話をしていただきます。

おおよその英語レベルを知るために、Cambridge English (https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/test-your-english/)で簡単なオンラインレベルテストを受けることができます。

Is ECS Scotland an adult-only English language school?

Yes. ECS Scotland specialises in English courses for adults.

The minimum age for group courses is 30, and most students are professionals, experienced travellers or retired learners.

Many students choose ECS Scotland because they prefer studying with other adults in a focused and relaxed learning environment.

Am I too old to study English abroad?

Students of all ages are welcome at ECS Scotland.

Most of our students are aged between 35 and 55, although we regularly welcome both younger and older adult learners. Our oldest student to date was 87 years old.

Some students study English for work, career development or further education. Others want to communicate more confidently while travelling, learn for personal interest or make the most of their time in Edinburgh.

You will be studying alongside other adult learners with a wide range of life experiences and shared learning goals.

Will I be the only student travelling alone?

No. Many ECS Scotland students travel to Edinburgh on their own.

Our small classes, coffee break and social programme make it easy to meet other students and practise English in a friendly environment.

Many students tell us they quickly feel part of the school community.

What happens on my first day?

On your first day, you will meet your teacher, classmates and members of the ECS Scotland team.

We will explain your timetable, show you around the school and help you settle in.

You will begin using English from your first lesson and have plenty of opportunities to meet other students during the day.

Will I understand the Scottish accent?

Yes. Edinburgh is an international city and students quickly become familiar with different accents.

ECS Scotland teachers speak clearly and are experienced in teaching international students. Learning to understand different accents is an important part of developing real-world communication skills.

Is ECS Scotland accredited by the British Council?

Yes. ECS Scotland is accredited by the British Council.

British Council accreditation is a quality assurance scheme for UK English language schools. Accredited schools are regularly inspected and must meet standards in teaching, student welfare, accommodation and management.

When was ECS Scotland established?

ECS Scotland was established in 1995 and has been welcoming adult students from around the world for more than 30 years.

As an independent family-run school, we focus on small classes, personal attention and helping students use English confidently in real-life situations.

Who studies at ECS Scotland?

ECS Scotland welcomes adults from many different countries, professions and backgrounds.

Our students include people who use English at work, independent travellers, retired learners and adults returning to English after many years.

Although their reasons for studying may be different, they often share the same goal: to communicate more confidently in English.

What is homestay accommodation?

Homestay accommodation means staying in the home of a local host while you study at ECS Scotland.

Many students choose homestay accommodation because it gives them more opportunities to practise English outside the classroom and experience everyday life in Edinburgh.

All ECS Scotland hosts are personally known to us and are selected for their friendliness and hospitality.

Will I have my own room in homestay accommodation?

Yes. All ECS Scotland homestay students have their own private bedroom.

Rooms are furnished with a bed, storage space and an area for study.

How far is homestay accommodation from ECS Scotland?

Most ECS Scotland hosts live within about a 35-minute walk of the school. Many students choose to walk each day and enjoy experiencing Edinburgh's neighbourhoods, parks and green spaces along the way.

Edinburgh is a compact city with a good public transport network. If you prefer to use public transport, journey times are usually around 30 minutes and may occasionally take up to 40–45 minutes in heavy traffic.

We will send you clear travel information before your arrival.

How do you choose my homestay host?

We ask students about their interests, lifestyle and any specific requirements before arrival.

We then match students with a suitable host whenever possible. We take care to find the best match for both the student and the host.

Our accommodation manager Laura, knows all of our hosts personally and can provide advice if you have any questions before you arrive.

What meal options are available in homestay accommodation?

ECS Scotland offers two homestay meal options.

You can choose Bed & Breakfast, which includes breakfast each day, or Half Board, which includes breakfast and three evening meals per week with your host.

Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements when you book.

Can I request a private bathroom?

Yes. Private bathroom accommodation is available, subject to availability.

Students can choose between a shared bathroom or a private bathroom when booking homestay accommodation.

Enrolment, payment and cancellation

How do I enrol in a course at ECS Scotland?

Complete our online enquiry form and tell us your preferred dates and course choice.

We will confirm availability and discuss the most suitable course options for your needs.

To confirm your booking, we will ask you to pay a deposit and complete the enrolment process.

How can I pay my deposit?

You can pay your deposit securely online through Flywire.

Flywire allows students to pay in their local currency using a range of payment methods, including bank transfer, debit card and credit card.

Many students find that Flywire is simpler and more cost-effective than making an international bank transfer directly to the UK. Flywire also provides payment tracking and local payment support in many countries.

We will send you a payment link and instructions once your course has been confirmed.

• 予約されたコース開始日の29日前以降にキャンセルされた場合、コースの予約金£250が請求されます。その他のお支払いは返金されます。
• ビザ申請が却下されたためにコースがキャンセルされた場合は、却下されたことを証明する書類とECOの署名、却下された日付をお送りください。コース料金は、150ポンドの事務手数料と銀行手数料を差し引いて返金されます。
• コース開始後のキャンセルまたは変更は、10日前（月曜日から金曜日までの2週間前）までに書面にて校長までご連絡ください。10日前までにご連絡いただいた場合、1週間分の受講料をキャンセル料として申し受けます。
• ご到着30日前以降のコース日程の変更には、空席状況と£50の事務手数料がかかります。
• ご到着29日前以降のコース日程の変更には、空席状況および£100の事務手数料がかかります。

ビザ

ECSスコットランドはビザ取得のサポートをしてくれますか？

欧州連合（EU）加盟国以外の国から英国に留学する場合、ビザが必要な場合があります。

入金の確認とパスポートのスキャンコピーを受け取り次第、確認書をお送りしますので、それを持って国の英国大使館に行き、ビザの取得のサポートを受けてください。具体的な要件については、お住まいの国の英国大使館にお問い合わせください。

Do I need a visa to study English in Scotland?

Visa requirements depend on your nationality and the length of your stay in the UK.

We recommend checking the latest UK Government guidance before booking your course.

If you need a visa support letter, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.

What happens if my visa application is refused?

If your visa application is refused, please send us a copy of the official refusal letter.

We understand this can be disappointing. Once we have received evidence of the refusal, we will refund your course fees, minus a £150 administration charge, in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.

Why study English in Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is a popular destination for learning English.

It is a safe, walkable city with a rich history, excellent cultural attractions and a large international community.

Students can practise English both inside and outside the classroom while exploring the city.

Can I practise English outside the classroom?

Yes. Edinburgh offers many opportunities to practise English in everyday situations.

Students can use English in cafés, shops, museums, galleries, festivals and community events throughout the city. There are also language exchange groups, board game evenings, walking groups, social clubs and traditional Scottish dancing events where you can meet local people and other international residents.

Many students also choose to take a day trip or bus tour to the Scottish Highlands, giving them the opportunity to see more of Scotland and use English during their journey.

At ECS Scotland, we also encourage students to use English during breaks, social activities and while exploring Edinburgh.
