What was it really like to study on our Experience Edinburgh course?
Curious about what it’s really like to combine English lessons with exploring Edinburgh? In this short interview, one of our students shares their experience of the course in their own words.
Learning at ECS Scotland
Our recent courses have included Experience Edinburgh, Communication at Work and individual lessons, with students continuing to use English in a variety of real situations throughout the day.
Coffee breaks, walks through the city and conversations after class all become opportunities to use English naturally and build confidence. Our small classes mean everyone has time to contribute and get to know the people learning alongside them.
Experience Edinburgh
Experience Edinburgh combines classroom learning with guided visits around the city, helping students continue using English outside the classroom.
With the warmer weather, it’s been a wonderful time to explore quieter streets, parks and neighbourhoods together. Questions, observations and conversations from these walks often return to the classroom later in the week, giving everyone something personal to talk about.
Life in Edinburgh
Edinburgh has enjoyed a spell of warm summer weather, making it easy to spend time outdoors after lessons.
George Street’s cafés have been busy once again, ice cream has become a popular afternoon treat and the Royal Botanic Garden is full of colour. Across the city, wildflowers are blooming in parks and green spaces, reminding us how much Edinburgh changes with the seasons.
Jane and Flora also spent the weekend at the Royal Highland Show, bringing back plenty of photographs and stories from one of Scotland’s best-loved summer events.
A final thought
One of the pleasures of studying during the summer is discovering Edinburgh as local people enjoy it.
A walk through the gardens after class, fresh seasonal food, an evening conversation over coffee or a visit to a summer event all become part of the learning experience.
Improving your English isn’t only about what happens in the classroom. It’s also about the people you meet, the conversations you have and the memories you take home.
