If the Royal Family are visiting, the Palace is closed to the public. For further information and opening times, see here.

It is possible to either just walk around the State Apartments or take an audio guided tour of the inside, where you can see various royal objects and a selection of historical paintings and portraits, as well as pictures of some of the famous heads of state who the Queen has entertained in Edinburgh.

The tour continues up to the oldest part of the palace and see the rooms where Mary Queen of Scots lived during her time as queen. Outside you can visit the Abbey and grounds, followed by a visit to the Queens Gallery to see an exhibition for the Royal Collection or just go for a coffee in the cafe.
